Gift Wrap

Dala Puff Paint is essentially a fabric paint that has, in this instance, been used in an excting and unconventional way - on paper.

Puff Paint and brown paper combine in a very complimentary way to create a unique new product, which can be used with great success as gift-wrap or for journal covers. We have used two easy methods:

• Potato print
• Mono printing

• Puff Paint
• Brown paper
• Potato
• Craft glue
• Cardboard strips
  

• Brayer roller
• An old tile or piece of glass
• Linocut tools or a sharp knife
• Paint brush
• Craft knife
• Ruler
• Oven

1. Cut the potato in half, as you require a flat surface for cutting your design into.
2. Using either the linocut tools or a small, sharp vegetable knife, carve your design into the flat potato surface.
3. Roll out a layer of Puff Paint onto the tile using the brayer roller.
4. Stamp the potato into the rolled out paint and print onto the brown paper. Create either a regular pattern or a random design but have an idea of your intent before you begin.
5. Allow the printed artwork to dry thoroughly.
6. Pre-heat your oven to 130º C. Heat set your artwork in the oven for 3 minutes.

1. Roll the Puff Paint out onto the smooth working surface.
2. Use a cardboard strip (cut into a comb) to draw patterns/designs into the paint.
3. Place a piece of brown paper over the inked design area and rub down gently over the top with your hand.
4. Carefully lift the paper off and allow to dry
5. Pre-heat your oven to 130º C. Heat set your artwork in the oven for 3 minutes

1. Cut your paper larger than the journal you wish to cover
2. Apply Craft Glue to the entire outer cover of the journal
3. Center the paper over the journal and gently rub down by hand to flatten
4. Continue to roll the paper flat, using your brayer as a rolling pin
5. Fold the overlapping edges into the covers as you would normally when covering a book.
